It is difficult to describe a synchronous event without examples. It is my belief that synchronicities have one or more of the characteristics that are listed above. The more of these characteristics that occur, the more that I am able to say and believe that they are synchronicities. The example that is presented below is my family's real experience. This is how I frame my recognition of a synchronous event. In this case, it is a rather long running one.

When my father-in-law was in the hospital intensive care, due to his strokes, my family went every night to visit him late in the evening after we closed our shop. Every night we would get there after most visitors had already arrived at the hospital. Parking was always at premium. But night after night a single parking spot would be available for us close to the hospital entrance. Very often, a car would be pulling out as we drove up. This didn't matter how early or late that we arrived. No other observable parking spots would be evident. Many workers and visitors at the hospital told us that this was really unusual. They said that it never happened to them.

Certainly, the other visitors and doctors would find no meaning in the parking spots opening up for us, but they did have meaning for us. We could not predict when we could get to the hospital every night due to the ebb and flow of our business but we felt compelled to get there. Also, it was always dark and scary late at night around the hospital because it was a big city hospital with lots of street people loitering around. Also, my mother-in-law's and my little children's safety was a big concern for us. Having these open parking slots were a relief night after night.

They can sometimes be acted upon
Knowing that our parking space needs were being satisfied gave us the flexibility to spend more time at the hospital and to help with my father-in-law's care. This speeded his recovery and got him out of the hospital earlier. Also, the nurses didn't have to work as hard and were able to spend more time with other patients. Knowing that the parking spots kept on coming gave us reassurance that we could take the time to go to the hospital every night no matter how late. We would also take our little children with the reassurance that we would still have enough time to properly feed them and get them back home to bed.
Do you think that this would encourage you to go to the hospital after a hard day of work?

They can lead to some emotional resolution
These frequently available car spaces gave us a vivid sense of the creator's loving kindness. We felt reassured that things would go well for my father-in-law so we stopped worrying and did not stress about the situation throughout the days when he was in the hospital.
Do you think you would lose your fears and feel confident if this happened to you?
The end of the story
My father-in-law left the hospital with a pacemaker (which never needed to be activated), went to a nursing home, where he relearned to walk in 6 months, and came home to us. He lived for another 5 years in our home and passed away peacefully at age 94. He was a happy, generous, and humorous man.

Please share your story of synchronicity. Let me know if it has any of the characteristics that I have noticed. Please add anything else that you feel are relevant even if you feel that this is not a synchronous event and has some other explanation.
